Triathlon event coming through Elsworth Sunday 19th March

We are Cambridge Triathlon Club. Based in Cambridge we have 200+ adult members and 150+ junior members from 8yrs old up 80!

We provide an environment for youngsters and adults to swim, cycle and run in a safe environment with help from coaches and peers (all volunteers) to help people get fit and have a fit and healthy life style.

The club has produced Olympians and world champions over the years and gives local people access to an environment which will help people to achieve their fitness goals.

The club is run on a membership basis with all of the coached sessions being subsidised by the club. We hold 2/3 cycle sessions a week, 2 run sessions, fitness sessions and 6 swimming sessions.

That’s where we come in.

In order to provide these services to the club, we the events committee hold events throughout the year to fundraise.

We run a kids triathlon, an adults triathlon and an aquathlon (swim/run), and last year we started this event…

Unfortunately we hold our adults triathlon at Mepal outdoor centre, which over Christmas was burnt down by arsonists….! So this has had to be cancelled.

So the event itself is a 25mile/40km off road cycling course which starts and finishes in Papworth (the village hall).

The Varrier Jones foundation kindly let us use their carparks at the back of the shops, we have a good local litter pick for them in exchange.

The event loop links Papworth to Hilton to Offord to gravely to yelling, which is where the yelling (they will be) WI put on a ‘feed station’ for us, providing bacon butties cakes and coffee. Last year they were raising for sport relief.

This is halfway on the course, or if you are doing the short course only 3 miles to go!. which heads back toward Papworth.

We then head through to Eltisley towards Caxton, then navigating cambourne, finally heading through Elsworth (enjoying the scenery) back up the big hill to Papworth hall.

At the hall we have Papworth running club, who are putting on coffee and cakes for before and after the event. They are using it as a local coffee morning to raise money for those who are running the London Marathon in 4 weeks time.

The event cost is £20 per adult and £5 for under 16s with an accompanying adult. people enter online or on the day at the sign in desk.

Currently we have around 75 people entered with people coming from as far as Birmingham and Kent!

Here is the British cycling link who provide us with full event insurance and full risk assessment.
